I Built Help Me So My Dead Would Be Proud of Me

There's a sentence I keep coming back to, one I haven't said out loud to many people. I built this platform from my heart, and somewhere in the back of my mind, I hope the people I've lost would be proud of me. Not proud in the LinkedIn-headline way. Proud the way you'd want a parent to be proud — quietly, because you did something decent with what you were given.

That's not a marketing line. It's the actual reason Fikrago Help Me exists.

The problem with every "giving" platform I'd used before

I've posted requests. I've donated to strangers. And every single time, there was a cut. A platform fee here, a "processing charge" there, a payout delay that made no sense for money that was supposed to be urgent. Somebody who never met the person in need was taking a percentage off someone's medical bill, someone's school fees, someone's rent.

I kept asking myself: why does a third party need to sit between two people who've already decided to trust each other?

So when I built Fikrago Help Me, the rule was non-negotiable before a single line of code existed. No fees. No commission. No cut of anything exchanged. Every person posts their own PayPal link, their own handle. Money moves directly between two humans, off-platform, the way it should have worked from the start. The only thing the platform itself ever touches is a completely optional donation to keep the lights on — and that's clearly separated from every individual request.

The part that actually scared me

Here's the honest complication, and I'm not going to hide it in a footer: we don't verify anyone. No badge, no ID check, no "trust score." I thought about faking that kind of system — it's what every other platform does to look safe. But a badge you have no real reason to trust is worse than no badge at all. It's a lie dressed up as safety.

So instead, I built it the transparent way. You get the poster's actual public handle to check yourself. A report button on every post. And a Terms & Disclaimer page that says plainly: once two people connect, the platform holds no liability. That's not a legal shortcut — it's respect. I'm telling you exactly what this is, instead of pretending I can guarantee something I can't.

The platform went dark for a stretch not long after launch — flagged, suspended, the whole thing sitting in limbo while I didn't know if it was coming back. It came back the same week as my birthday. I won't pretend that timing didn't mean something to me. You build something with nothing — no funding, no dev team, no code background going in, just AI tools and a lot of stubbornness — and then you watch it get taken away and handed back in the same breath. It reframes what the thing is actually for.

Four sections, one idea

Help Me carries urgent and non-urgent requests — medical, food, education, work tools, family, other — tagged plainly. Dream Board is for people funding something bigger: a small business, a piece of equipment, a shot they can't reach alone. Mentor Match involves no money at all, just time and knowledge, freely given. Story Series is where the honest follow-ups live — what actually happened after someone posted, written straight, linking back to the original request.

It's built in English and Arabic, full right-to-left layout for Arabic readers, because "anyone who needs help without a middleman" shouldn't quietly mean "anyone who reads English."

Why I'm telling you this instead of just linking the site

I could've written a clean, faceless "how it works" post and called it content. But that's not what got this thing built at 2am with no budget and no team. What got it built was wanting to make something that didn't take from people who already have nothing to spare — and wanting, somewhere underneath that, to be someone my own people would recognize as having done right by others.

If you're sitting on a request you've been too proud or too tired to write down, that's exactly what this was made for. And if you've got nothing to ask for but something to give, the board is there too.
